Our first floor apartment in Lagos is provided at substantially reduced rates to friends and clients of Gracelings Natural Health and provides accommodation for up to six adults.
 

LAGOS APARTMENT - GENERAL INFORMATION

 

General

 

The apartment has been purchased as a second home in more sunnier climes.  However, to help finance the venture it is hoped that friends and clients will take the opportunity to enjoy the Portuguese culture and climate at an affordable level.  The apartment is situated close to all amenities and has been furnished throughout with quality fixtures and fittings.  The apartment provides extremely comfortable and very cost effective holiday accommodation.

 

Location

 

The apartment is situated in the Western Algarve on the outskirts of Lagos.   Lagos is a small busy town with a thriving fishing industry and port.    A new marina has recently been built and Lagos is now home to many in the sailing fraternity.    Renowned for its spectacular beaches, the Algarve is also home to many golf courses and is the favoured location for winter golfing holidays abroad.    The nearest beach is within ten minutes walk from the apartment and other more secluded beaches can be found within walking distance or a short drive.   On the other side of town, the four mile Meia Priaia Beach is less than a ten minute drive away.   There are four golf courses within half an hour’s drive, the nearest being five minutes drive away.    Not a spot for partying the night away, Lagos has a quieter more laid back feel about the place.   There are very few hotels and little contact with normal tourism.    The area is mainly made up with private villas and apartments, many like ourselves, being used for private holidays.

 

Facilities

 

The apartment has two bedrooms, one double en-suite and a twin bedroom with a further bathroom.    There is an additional single bed chair in the main bedroom and two put-u-up beds that could be used in the lounge.    The apartment is extremely spacious for two adults, very comfortable for four adults and well appointed to take up to two extra guests.   At a pinch, two couples with two children each could manage.

 

All linen and towels are provided, but not beach towels.   There is a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious lounge with TV/DVD and Satellite TV (English free view channels).   A few books, videos, DVDs and games are available for general use, but no play stations !   There is also a parking space in the communal garage under the building.   Central heating is available for those few chilly nights during the winter.

 

Cleaning and Self Help Arrangements

 

Bed linen and towels will be changed on changeover days.    However, in order to keep our costs down and prices within a reasonable level, we would ask that our guests keep the apartment clean and tidy.     The apartment is new with tiled floors and should, hopefully, not take to much time to hoover and wash occasionally.   There is a washer/dryer for use, should you need to use additional linen during your stay.   As a general principle, we would hope you leave the apartment as you would wish to find it.    This will normally allow use of the apartment until guests are ready to leave for the airport.   A welcome pack of tea, coffee, UHT milk and basic food necessities will be left in case guests arrive too late for the shops or restaurants.   Again, all we ask is that guests replenish the pack before they leave.

 

For the convenience of all guests, we have adopted a no smoking policy and would ask that guests refrain from smoking whilst in the apartment.

 

Climate

 

About ten degrees above the UK norm.    July and August are very hot, with June and September more comfortable with temperatures in the high twenties.  In April, May and October temperatures remain in the lower twenties whilst winter days are sunny with cooler nights.   

 

Lagos Town

 

Those not wishing to dirty the oven will be pleased to know that Lagos Old Town has numerous restaurants, with a three course meal and wine averaging about £12 per head.  There are also plenty of shops which stay open late evenings in the summer to keep most shopaholics happy.  The Old Town is about ten minutes walk from the apartment and a supermarket is within five minutes walk. English is widely spoken and the Portuguese people extremely friendly.

 

Out and About

 

The Spanish border is an hour and a half drive away and Lisbon about three hours.  For those not wishing to drive long distances, the Algarve offers extensive beaches, water parks and a wealth of history within easy driving distance.  The nearest large town is Portimao with its holiday suburb Praia de Rocha, famous for spectacular beaches.  The mountain towns of Monchique and Silves offer a welcome break from the summer heat, whilst to the West, there are coastal villages offering a more rural atmosphere.  Boat trips are available from the marina and there are thirty-one golf courses along the Algarve.  Those not wanting to travel too far or wanting just to relax, there are scenic cliff top walks and local beaches just five minutes away from the apartment.

 

Prices

 

The prices represent a saving of approximately £250 per week in the high season compared with similar properties in Lagos.  Weeks that fall between two different priced months will be charged pro-rata.  We would ask that full payment is made 6 weeks prior to departure.   No additional charges are made for electricity, utilities or school holidays.

A refundable deposit will be requested when confirming the booking.

 

Bookings

 

Please contact us in the first instance.   We will not ask for a deposit until we are able to confirm the reservation.

 

Change Over Days

 

Changeover days can be flexible, although we suggest Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays to coincide with the Exeter flights.

 

Car Hire

 

We would recommend ‘Travel Rent’ for car hire, who meet you at the airport and have you on your way within minutes.   In 2008 an air conditioned Corsa cost between 84 and 160 euros per week and a  Peugeot 307 estate 110 and 250 euros, depending on the time of year, plus between 15 and 35 euros for full insurance for the week.   They can be contacted on:  00351 289 825673.

 

Other Travel Options

 

Travel from Faro Airport to Lagos is easiest by hire car; however, there is an adequate Train Service and also Bus and Taxi options.   A Taxi from the Faro Airport will cost in the region of 50 Euros, with the train and bus option at about 10 Euros. 

 

Flights

 

Flybe from Exeter fly Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.    Eastjet fly every day from Bristol.   Book via the Internet.

 

Directions

 

Full driving directions will be given when the keys are forwarded.   But in short, from Faro, follow signs from the Airport for A22 Motorway and then in the direction of Lisbon/Portimao.     Follow A22 to Lagos.
